About

June 10th, 2009

Hallo! This is not meant to be an authoritative, detailed guide to Berlin. It’s just one bloke hanging out in Berlin, for a month, using up spare holiday, and frittering away cash like someone frittering away cash during a month’s spare holiday. It’s a travelogue; a bloke who is aiming to do as much as he can, but aint in a hurry to die trying.

Hanging out means hanging out, not fixing 12 things to do in one day and sticking by it until your feet and soul ache. This aint a city break with a new girlfriend. There will be hangovers and, as at home in London, with a hangover you don’t pop to the ruddy museum – you go back to the pub or neck a greasy spoon or, as they sy in Deutsche, die kleine frustuck, bitter.

Of course, there will be tips. In June, Berlin is hot. Average of 22C. There will be more sunbathing in the parks, at Badeschiff and the beach bars (ja, beach bars, get that!) than culture-vulching, well kind of. (Look, there’s a tip there!)

The only plan is to stay with as many Germans as possible. Germans renting out rooms, which they are want to do, being nice, open-minded people and all that.

Course, this blog, on Berlin will be punched drunk with SEO terms, key words and web-friendly stuff, mitt links, that probably come underlined and in that nice shade of purple or blue. Probably some pictures, too, and hopefully some moving images, nee video; if we ever sort the mobile phone and camera.

There will be kein umlauts oder accents – it’s a typograhical minefield that I’m not prepared to hop through!

So, after those caveats, it’s onwards and upwards, or as they say in German, vorschprung!
